Hello, Fernando here,

CAN IT BE that NFL strength coaches are finally admitting:
- that bench-pressing heavy weights is NOT the best way to get strong, increase performance and reduce injuries on the field?
- Movement and core training and bodyweight training has proven to be more effective than the old heavy weight training everyone has been accustomed to seeing?
- that using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) test has been KEY to their success and is rapidly becoming the new standard of performance testing?

Here are some excerpts of the NY Times article - "Falcons Have Had a Winning Strategy for Fitness":

"The Falcons, who visit the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, have emphasized flexibility, based on a procedure called Functional Movement Systems. I’m very confident with what we’ve been doing over the last three and a half years,” said Dimitroff, who described the methods as semirevolutionary.

“I believe it’s going to be the wave of the future” in the N.F.L., he added.

"NFL player Coy Wire condemns “prehistoric, barbaric programs” that he believes some franchises practice. They cater, he said, to the typical athlete who cannot resist sliding under the bench press bar after loading it with as much weight as he can bear."

"The counterintuitive aspect of F.M.S., Cook said, is that the cure is not necessarily increasing an existing exercise. For a player who scores 0 or 1 on squats, ordering more squats can compound the problem. The thing that’s been hard for a lot of old-school coaches is, you’ve got to stop and get back to change that baseline,” he said.

...Prehistoric? Barbaric? Wow... never thought I'd see this day.

For the most staunch protectors of the always-flawed heavy weight training, isolation approach of training - NFL strength coaches - to FINALLY admit all of this and that the movement & core training that Trainers like myself have been preaching for years IS better, is truly amazing.

Can it be that REAL training will reign supreme once again? Only time will tell.
