Let Your Body Talk
Sometimes we think we are doing all of the right things, eating healthy foods, working out daily at the gym and taking all of those vitamins, but something still isn’t right. Your body will talk to you, it will give you signs when something isn’t right, listen to those signs. Everyone is unique so what works for one person may not work for another.
In my case I eat fairly healthy, was training for a marathon so was very physically active, and regularly took my vitamins and protein shakes. Despite all of these things I found that I was feeling sluggish in the mornings, which was unusual, and I was having bouts of dizziness, sometimes to the point of passing out. My blood pressure was dropping to lower than what my normal pressure was, reading in the 90/50 range and probably lower when I was fainting.
Now this didn’t make sense to me! I was doing everything right! I am healthy! What I had to realize was that every person is different and my body was trying to tell me I was doing something wrong. So I quit taking all of my vitamins and for safety reasons quit working out as heavily and I started analyzing everything I was feeling and eating and taking. I realized when looking at the vitamins and whole food supplements that it didn’t make sense for someone my size of 107 lbs and 5’1” tall to be taking the same amount of these vitamins as someone who is 150 or 200 lbs. So after slowing re-implementing my vitamins and protein shakes over time I realized that the things I thought I was doing so right were exactly what I was doing wrong.
Instead of taking extra vitamins when you start to feel sluggish in the morning you may want to take the time to listen to your body and hear what it is telling you. Look at any recent changes you may have made to your diet. If you dramatically lowered your salt intake 6 months ago you may want to do a simple test by putting some salt on your food and seeing how salty it tastes. If it doesn’t taste like you are swallowing ocean water you may need to add some salt back into your diet. Physical activity and fish oils are generally good options, but physical activity lowers your blood pressure naturally and fish oils can indirectly thin your blood. In my case my size and the amount of physical activity and fish oils that I was taking needed to be adjusted. I am now taking fish oil every third day instead of every day and am still working out, but pay closer attention to my blood pressure, doing daily checks.
There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
