Aunt Audie’s English Toffee

Merry Christmas!  I love this time of the year.  You will find me in the kitchen almost all month.  I love making candy, cookies, sweet breads for co-workers, neighbors, friends, and parties.  This month I thought I would share some of the recipes that I make every year.  These are not all my personal recipes.  These are ones I have collected from friends, family, and by searching the internet on sleepless nights.  I apologize for not keeping the name of the person on all the recipes that I have collected over the past 40 years.  But I hope that you will enjoy the recipes as much as my family and friends enjoy them.  Merry Christmas and Enjoy!

Aunt Audie’s English Toffee

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 package sliced almonds (Optional)
6 Hershey milk Chocolate bars

Melt butter and sugar in sauce pan over medium heat.  Add package of sliced almonds.  Stir continuously until color of the mix is a caramel color.  (The butter will separate and it is done when it goes back together.  Pour into a 9x13 pan and spread thinly.    Place the 6 Hershey milk chocolate bars on top.  When melted spread the chocolate evenly over the top.  Refrigerate until cool.  Once the toffee is cold, break into pieces.  Store in tissue paper in gift can.
