A Weighty Issue: Flawed Perceptions of Weight

A recent survey conducted by US researchers found that more women perceive themselves to be of “normal” weight when in reality they are overweight or obese. In a survey of 2000 women in which 1000 were obese or overweight, 25% of the women in the overweight category were unaware that they had a weight problem.
A similar study surfaced last year in the UK, where three out of four obese people were unaware of their weight problem.

So the big question is why the skewed perception?
Is it because we are seeing more and more people of similar weight?
Is it that people just do not care?
Is it that people are getting more comfortable with who they are inside and out?
Is it because people feel weight loss is a lost cause and too much work to change?

Of course, the biggest concern is that if people are unaware they are less likely to make lifestyle which in turn causes many health issues.
